Welcome!
The admissions section of our website is designed to introduce you to the dynamic qualities of our program, and also to our selective admissions process. Please use the following as a resource to learn more about Oak Hill School and also to begin the admissions process.
We believe that education is an investment that appreciates over a lifetime. You have taken an exciting step for your child by learning more about Oak Hill School.
From Headmaster Elliott Grey: “Oak Hill is more than a school--it is a community of inquisitive learners and burgeoning leaders. Our dedicated and motivating faculty members not only foster the academic risk-taking that leads to truly meaningful learning, but they also inspire the poise and self confidence students need to achieve academic, social, and real-world goals.”
Oak Hill admits students who are intelligent, motivated, inquisitive, original, respectful, honest, and who will strive to embrace the Oak Hill mission and motto. Oak Hill parents and guardians are actively involved in their student's education.
Integral in Oak Hill’s program is our campus, community, and curriculum.
Extensive data in educational research supports the positive relationship between a nurturing setting and student success. Oak Hill is nestled on a stunning and secure 72-acre campus in Eugene’s South Hills. Formerly a ranch, this natural landscape invites endless student creativity and exploration. Oak Hill’s buildings are welcoming and stimulating spaces created with the individual learner in mind. Couple our setting with deliberate classroom design, caring teachers, and supportive peers, and you find a rare learning environment in which Oak Hill students thrive.
Education seems infectious when students can analyze poetry in front of a warm fire in the original ranch house Gather Room; estimate potato crop yield from seeds planted this year, based on prior year statistics; or outline a research paper seated at a naturally-lit desk in one of our new, green-built classrooms. The gymnasium boasts ample space to house to our athletic program, art productions, and all-school gatherings. Anything a student can’t observe directly on campus, they can explore in our library's books, our media center's computers, or with their laptop using our campus WiFi.
Oak Hill students and parents experience myriad benefits from our school community. Small classes allow us to learn about all our students and meet their individual skills and challenges. We encourage parents to communicate regularly and openly with the faculty and to participate in their students’ education at home and in the classroom. Almost invariably, students site their relationships with their teachers as the best part of being at Oak Hill. Parents and students call Oak Hill an extension of their family. The nurturing and supportive network of caring, compassionate, and talented adults in every student’s life makes a difference in the students they are, and in the people they become.
While we ensure our program meets state and national benchmarks, and while Oak Hill students earn high scores on standardized tests—including the highest SAT scores in Lane County—we do not teach to tests. Oak Hill students succeed because of their exposure to challenging but attainable academic objectives; a rich selection of electives that reinforces core academic concepts; and close-knit relationships with a family of educators who know each student intimately. There is a reason why 100% of our graduates are admitted to 4-year colleges: because Oak Hill students receive a fine education, but also because Oak Hill’s teachers support students’ growth into critical thinkers, considerate leaders, and responsible stewards of our global community.
