Oak Hill School is a community where each student, teacher and staff member is an individual.  At Oak Hill, intellectually-capable and curious students actively engage in their academic studies.  Students participate in their learning and are guided by faculty members who intertwine traditional instruction with contemporary, evidence-based methodology.  Students attain fluency in a breadth of subject areas, explore concepts locally and consider ideas globally.  Oak Hill graduates have a strong grasp of leadership, character, critical thought and decision analysis.

Oak Hill is a community of participants fortified by supportive relationships.  Our small size allows us the ability to be flexible, to grow, expand, and develop our program as student and societal needs develop and change.  We are small enough to ensure a student with a personal or academic challenge does not "fall through the cracks."  Community members know one another by name and care for one another.  We believe that students should be given opportunities to grow and test the boundaries of personal responsibility.  Many of our students participate in team sports, after-school music or in our amazing drama program. Our High Five (knowledge bowl) team has consistently placed competitively against enormous northwest schools, and our Math Counts team has placed high against other Lane County schools. There are many opportunities for parents to participate, both on and off campus.

Our graduates go on to some of the best colleges and universities in the nation. This year several alumni shared with me how well Oak Hill prepared them for college life—both academically and personally.  It is not uncommon for alum to drop in and share the difference Oak Hill has made for them, particularly the power of their relationships with teachers.

Increasingly, our program offers challenges for high ability students.   For example, the lower school recently expanded the language program to include both Spanish and French beginning in Kindergarten.  Next year we plan to add Mandarin and Japanese.  In middle school we’ve expanded our offerings in character education to include public speaking, cooking, sewing, and making good decisions.  High school offerings now include AP Music Theory, AP Statistics, and a college preparation semester course.  The school is committed to providing a strong academic foundation along with a global, analytical and humane perspective in a learning environment that is safe, varied and rich.

Oak Hill is not for everyone. We are geared for the student who wants to better herself and is willing to work hard to get there. While the majority of our students are high ability learners, all of our students are respectful of the diversity of backgrounds and cultures and intelligences that we represent. Those who choose to embrace an Oak Hill education will be prepared for whatever future they can envision.

Whether you are a current Oak Hill community member or a prospective family, I invite you to explore our website further.  I believe you will be impressed by our fantastic teachers, wonderful program and beautiful grounds.
