OAK HILL COMMUNITY COUNCIL
STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES
April 10, 2006
1. Correction from the last minutes, middle school track meet scheduled for 5/6/06 and not on 5/3/06
2. Minutes from the meeting on March 13, 2006 were approved.
3. Larry is having a procedure today. He is feeling much better. The school will be hiring someone to help with grounds and cleaning. He is getting some monetary help but maybe we can do a fundraiser for him. Seniors have been assigned groups of kids to help around the school with minor around campus.
4. Garden Committee Update: Karen has begun the Friday morning garden work parties from 8:30 – 9:30. This is a good opportunity for parents who have not yet volunteered. She will be having a spring plant sale, possibly the last week in April. She will be contacting Shannon Pointer to see if she and her husband can provide the pots of perennials. Lower School teachers are planning on doing garden planting this spring. Daffodils are blooming in the “cut flowers” bed. These are available for meetings or general school cheer. Karen’s goal for the end of the year is to: finish major construction and maintenance requirements for the different parts of the garden and designers long range plans. It would be very helpful to have a garden coordinator for next year. It would be wonderful to have several groups involved and to get the students more involved.
5. Parent Advisory Committee: A new
survey was sent out with about 40 responses thus far. Last day for filling out
the survey will be the end of next week. Notice will be put on the marquis
reminding people to fill out the survey.
6. Auction Committee: Volunteers are needed to help set up beginning on Thurs
morning and continuing on Friday. Volunteers are needed for clean up at 10:00
pm after the auction is over. Volunteers are also needed to do the valet
parking the evening of the auction beginning at 5:00. So far 9 limos are full,
and Carrie will contact new families to see if they would like to participate.
Laura will be e mailing a list of 9 chores that can be done by the above
mentioned senior led cleaning groups. Everyone is excited about having the
auction at the school, it is a great way for people to come and see the campus.
7. Faculty/Staff Appreciation Committee: We are behind on the birthday cakes. Updated lists were made available. We are still looking for someone to head up the faculty appreciation luncheon, which will be held on May 5. The school pools will be utilized in looking for someone to head this event. This person will need to organize the lunch and have student and parent speakers to show their appreciation. They will need to have volunteers to help watch the students while the faculty is having lunch. Last year people could email their thoughts and these were read aloud at the luncheon. Two hundred dollars will be made available to fund the luncheon by the pizza Friday account.
8. Committee Instruction Folders/CD’s: Committees need to have these ready by the next meeting. Elliott has been talking to Heather Henderson about getting a booklet together for new parents, to inform them and notify them of the events that will be happening throughout the year. Janet will also be able to help with that task.
9. The next green gram will state that it is not too late to get in the volunteer hours.
10. Melissa will be using the school pools to ask for volunteers for Grandparents Day.
11. Parenting for Teens is a lecture series we might be interested in having at Oak Hill. This could be made available to the local community, maybe it could happen during May. Mondays or Thursdays are open for this very enthusiastic woman to do this. It would be two hours a week. Cost is 120.00 per person for 4 weeks. A minimum of 6 to 8 parents are needed for this to be a success.
12. The next meeting is open to the entire Oak Hill community and will be held on May 8, 2006 at 3:15. Meeting adjourned at 4:00.
