Literature //AP Composition - This course offering rotates
between AP Literature and AP Composition. The
class, which simulates college level literature courses, is designed to prepare students for
the Advanced Placement exam in English Literature and Composition. Students will study various
modes of discourse and scrutinize linguistic and rhetorical choices.
As students closely read a wide variety of literature from antiquity to the present,
they should become increasingly aware of how authors from different time periods and
disciplines suit their rhetorical choices to their particular aims. Texts are chosen to
provide a framework for discussing the historical context of literature. Representative texts include: Shakespeare’s Hamlet,
Sophocles’ Antigone, Dante’s Inferno,
and Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment.
