Our
aim is to give students a thorough knowledge of the English language, the ability to speak and
write clearly, think logically, and read with comprehension, all while fostering in the
students a lasting appreciation for good literature. Classics
and Composition I - This
foundation level class provides an introduction to analytical reading of classic short
stories, novels, poems, and plays through lively class discussion and extensive work in
composition. The process of revision underscores
the writing program, and not only teaches the rewards of disciplined effort and perseverance,
but also allows grammar instruction to be tied to the process. Journal writing is required. Representative texts include: Steinbeck’s
Of Mice and Men, Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, and
Orwell’s 1984.
