Eighth Grade - US History (Integrated with English) This course covers the origins of human communities in the North American continent, the growth of the United States, the workings of the American government political systems, and selected topics in American history from the colonial period through the twenty-first century. Students learn about America’s legal system, democratic government and societal mechanisms for negotiation, compromise, and conflict resolution. Emphasis is placed on the role of science and technology and the evolution of culture. The text for the class is John Garraty’s The Story of America. Students also read novels like Johnny Tremaine.
