Sixth Grade
(Integrated
with History) - Students
develop their writing and reading skills in the context of creative writing assignments and
varied genres of literature.
The skill focus is on punctuation, usage, and organization, as well as spelling and
vocabulary.
Students write a variety of creative stories, including global myths and folklore,
narrative essays, Shakespearean tales and poetry.
They also read short novels, such as Call of the
Wild and The Good Earth.
Students explore film as literature, through comparing classic novels with their
film treatment.
Outside reading is required each term.
As a complement to the reading and writing, students will discuss current events and
examine their own role in today’s society.
