Kindergarten and First Grade - We teach reading using a blend of phonics and whole language. The text used is called Open Court. We also supplement this program with materials that target the different learning styles, which helps all of our students develop reading readiness skills. Whether the child is learning the alphabet or is already a fluent reader, we individualize programs based on the student’s needs.  Another important component of our reading program is that students have a story time every day. Stories are thematic and they connect with the other lessons for the day. The year begins with picture books but by the end, students listen to chapter books.
